A Sambalpuri saree is a traditional handwoven bandha (ikkat) saree (locally called “sambalpuri bandha” sadhi or saree) wherein the warp and the weft are tie-dyed before weaving. Sambalpuri Ikkat weave, which has its origins in the Sambalpur belt of Odisha, reflects a craft called Ikkat.Bundles of yarns are wrapped and repeatedly dyed to create a surface design.
